England National Cricket Team captain Ben Stokes hit the India National Cricket Team young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy on the head with a brutal delivery on Saturday, July 12.
The incident involving Ben Stokes and Nitish Kumar Reddy happened on Day 3 of the third Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Lord's in London.
Scary moment as Nitish Kumar Reddy gets hit on the head
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy shone with his twin wickets in the first innings, where he dismissed two English openers, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, in the same over.
Meanwhile, he came out to bat after the dismissal of the centurion KL Rahul just after lunch. Reddy batted decently in the middle, but was finding it hard to get going.
Then, in the 90th over, Reddy was part of a scary incident as he was hit on the helmet by a delivery from Ben Stokes. On the second ball of the over, Stokes bowled a stunning short ball to Reddy, who tried to evade, but was late and got hit brutally on the helmet.
He was down on the floor after getting hit, but quickly stood up, gave a thumbs up, suggesting he was fine. However, the play was halted for a long time as Nitish Kumar Reddy received treatment from a physio, and an ice pack was also put on the side of his head.

That was a signal to England that they haven’t rattled him - Mel Jones
Nitish Kumar Reddy finished his innings with a score of 30 runs off 91 balls, and Mel Jones felt that his thumbs-up signal after getting hit was to show that England hadn't rattled him. Speaking on Sky Sports, Jones said:
“Reddy was up immediately, gave the thumbs up immediately. That was a signal to England that they haven’t rattled him.”
Meanwhile, former India head coach Ravi Shastri said that Reddy has plenty of shots in his arsenal. He stated:
“Reddy can play shots, he has a wide range. It’s a case of him keeping Jadeja company for now but he is very good with the tail. He looks to improvise, can be unorthodox. India's tactic might be to see off the next 10, 12 overs of the new ball and then shift gears."
Also, the batting legend Alastair Cook lauded Ben Stokes' 'seriously good ball' to get rid of Reddy. Speaking on BBC Test Match Special, he said:
"That's a seriously good ball from Ben Stokes. He had to play at it, back of the length and it's kissed the surface, Bumnrah-esque in terms of getting more out of the surface than anyone else. Nitish Kumar Reddy's played well for his 30 but England again, just when that partnership has been building, they strike."
