Ben Stokes couldn’t make any significant contribution in England’s first innings with the bat
While Ben Stokes batted with alacrity in the first Test and smashed a quickfire 82 in the first innings then, he couldn’t put any notable performance in the first innings of the second Test.
The 29-year-old left-hander was bowled by a beauty from Ravichandran Ashwin in the first innings and could make only 18 runs. In the bowling, as well Stokes has had a quiet match; he bowled just a couple of overs in India’s first innings and didn’t bowl any overs in the second innings.
While people have made speculations that Stokes is carrying a niggle – Dan Lawrence was asked to bowl an over on Monday, but Ben Stokes didn’t – despite the England management denying that concern.
India set England a target of 482 runs after a hundred from Ashwin
After a fifty from Virat Kohli and a hundred from a local boy, R Ashwin, the visitors are been set a massive – improbable to even conceive chasing – a target of 482 runs in two-and-a-bit days. Considering England was bowled out for 134 runs inside 60 overs on Day 2, it is not a matter of if but when India levels the series.
