After a slight delay, Team India's victory parade finally began from the Marine drive on Thursday evening (July 4). While the parade was planned to start from 5 PM at Marine Drive, it finally began after a delay of more than two hours.

The long delay, however, did not dishearten the fans who came out in a huge number to celebrate the historic triumph at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Thousands of fans arrived at the Marine Drive even before Team India landed in Mumbai. The Wankhede Stadium was jampacked as well, as the fans desperately waited for the World Cup winners.

The victory parade began around 7:30 PM as the Indian players celebrated the win with the fans. The parade began at Marine Drive as the open-top bus carrying the players passed through the sea of fans. During the parade, an unexpected event took place.

As the huge number of fans desperately tried to catch a glimpse of their heroes, one of the fans came up with a creative idea to secure a better vantage point. He decided to climb the tree to get close to the Indian players.

As the bus passed through the parade route, the fan could be seen lying on the branch and clicking photos with his phone. It was a big security lapse but fortunately, nothing untoward happened due to it.

Meanwhile, the parade will end at the Wankhede Stadium where the BCCI will be felicitating the fans. During the event, the BCCI will also hand over the Rs 125 prize money to the Indian team. Earlier in the day, the Indian team landed in New Delhi and received a grand welcome from the fans.

The players and the support staff members met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence before leaving for Mumbai. The celebration at the Wankhede Stadium will mark an end to a memorable month for the Indian team.

Just around a month ago, India started their campaign in the T20 World Cup. On June 5, they defeated Ireland in their first game and went on to win the tournament. In the final, the Rohit Sharma-led side defeated South Africa by 7 runs as India became the first Asian country to win the T20 World Cup twice. Overall, they became the third team after England and West Indies to win the tournament more than once.
