Melbourne Renegades captain Will Sutherland was ordered out of the bowling attack during the match against Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 season. Sutherland was removed from the bowling attack after running in the danger area more than once while bowling during the match.
Melbourne Renegades won the toss and opted to bowl at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday, January 18. Nathan McSweeney and Jack Wood provided a strong start for the Brisbane Heat. Adam Zampa provided a breakthrough for his team by dismissing McSweeney, who scored 29 off 26 balls.

The incident occurred on the final ball of the 12th over. Will Sutherland was ordered out of the bowling attack for stepping into the danger area after being previously warned during his first over. Matt Renshaw smashed three consecutive sixes before Sutherland was removed from the bowling attack.
The Big Bash League official account on social media X (formerly known as Twitter) shared the clip of Sutherland arguing with the umpire after being removed from the attack.

Fergus O'Neill Joins Skipper Will Sutherland in Being Removed from Bowling
The incident occurred again in the match when Fergus O'Neill was ordered out of the attack for landing in the danger area after being previously warned. O'Neill was the second bowler, after Sutherland, to be removed from the attack during the game. Josh Brown completed the over both times.

Brisbane Heat scored 196 runs for the loss of four in 20 overs. Jack Wood was the top scorer for the Heat with 45 runs off 27 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Matt Renshaw (40 off 22) and Tom Alsop (42 off 26) chipped in with useful knocks. For Renegades, Adam Zampa took two wickets for 29 runs.
MCC Law 41.13: Bowler Running on Protected Area
41.13.1 It is unfair for a bowler to enter the protected area in his/her follow-through without reasonable cause, whether or not the ball is delivered.
41.13.2 If a bowler contravenes this Law, at the first instance and when the ball is dead, the umpire shall
- caution the bowler and inform the other umpire of what has occurred. This caution shall apply to that bowler throughout the innings.
- inform the captain of the fielding side and the batters of what has occurred.
41.13.3 If, in that innings, the same bowler again contravenes this Law, the umpire shall repeat the above procedure indicating that this is a final warning. This warning shall also apply throughout the innings.
41.13.4 If, in that innings, the same bowler contravenes this Law a third time, when the ball is dead, the umpire shall, direct the captain of the fielding side to suspend the bowler immediately from bowling.
