The fans were treated to yet another special innings from Virat Kohli on Thursday, November 2, when Team India faced off against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

He had to walk out to bat in the very first over of the game after Dilshan Madushanka castled India captain Rohit Sharma with a beauty. Virat Kohli once again bailed the team out of trouble with a brilliant knock of 88 runs. He shared a 189-run stand with Shubman Gill (92) for the second wicket before both of them were dismissed by Madushanka in quick succession.

A 56-ball 82-run knock from Shreyas Iyer then guided the team to a mammoth total of 357 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs. For Sri Lanka, Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5 for 80 off his 10 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for a paltry total of 55 runs as India won the game by a record margin of 302 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah gave the hosts a flying start by dismissing Pathum Nissanka on the very first delivery of the innings and the Islanders just never recovered from the early setback. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reeling at 14 for 6 at one stage. The tailenders then helped them cross the 50-run mark.

Crowd asks Virat Kohli to bowl:

After Virat Kohli’s brilliant knock, the Wankhede Stadium crowd eagerly anticipated seeing the star bowl a few overs. The former India skipper hardly bowls in international cricket and the fans just could not wait to seem him roll his arms again.

And when captain Rohit Sharma did not hand the ball to his predecessor, the crowd decided to take the matter in its own hands. They started chanting “Kohli ko bowling do”. Kohli did not really bowl in the game but he made sure to give the fans something to cheer about. As the crowd was busy chanting, the India superstar came up with a brilliant gesture.
