With the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara before Tea on Day 1 at Lord’s, James Anderson has brought England back in the game after a massive 126-run opening stand between Sharma and KL Rahul.
James Anderson, who has displayed a variety of releases in this game, has continued his phenomenal success from the first Test. Sharma got out to one that nipped in while Pujara was lured with the one that swung away.
After the wicket of Sharma, India needed to build on the platform given by the openers. However, Pujara continued on his slump and got out after scoring 9 uncomfortable runs off 23 deliveries. Similar to Rohit, James Anderson set up the dismissal of Pujara, who had been dismissed by the legendary seamer in the first Test also.

While Sharma was set up with an outswinger, and then missed an in-nipper, Pujara was outfoxed with the reverse strategy.
The delivery previous to dismissing Pujara, James Anderson released a booming inswinger from near the stumps, which the batsman gently tapped down the ground for a couple. With that inswinger, the 39-year-old had planted a seed of doubt in Pujara’s head. The next delivery was not only an outswinger, but Andeson bowled it from wide of the crease, giving an impression of an inswinger!
Caught in double mind, Pujara hung his bat out with the ball straightening and taking the outside edge of his willow into the bucket hands of Jonny Bairstow at third slip to end Pujara’s itchy stay.

With this knock, now, he hasn’t been able to cross 25 in his last 10 innings. He averages 27.78 this year, and hasn’t notched up a Test ton since January 2019. The pressure of his place in the side is increasing with every failure.
