Virat Kohli Yet to Make Official Statement on Reports of Retirement from Test Cricket

Virat has yet to make any official statement regarding reports of his retirement from Test cricket. His retirement could be a major setback for India ahead of their crucial Test series in England.

Kohli has a decent record in England, with 1,096 runs from 17 Tests, including two centuries and five half-centuries. He struggled on English soil during the 2014 series but has adapted over time and remains one of India's key performers in overseas conditions.

The 36-year-old is the nation’s third-highest run-scorer. He has scored 9,230 runs in 123 matches at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries and 31 fifties to his name. Notably, Kohli has already announced his retirement from T20 Internationals after India’s triumphant 2024 T20 World Cup campaign.

Most runs for India in Tests:

Sachin Tendulkar – 15921 runs in 200 Tests

Rahul Dravid – 13265 runs in 163 Tests

Sunil Gavaskar – 10122 runs in 125 Tests

Virat Kohli – 9230 runs in 123 Tests

Virat Kohli's Struggle on Recent Australia Tour Raises Questions About Future

Virat Kohli’s recent performance on India’s tour of Australia raised concerns, as the star batter failed to maintain form throughout the series. Kohli has been solid in away Tests throughout his career, amassing 4,774 runs in 66 matches, including 16 centuries and 18 half-centuries.

However, his recent numbers have not lived up to expectations. Kohli started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia strongly with a century in the first Test at Perth, which sparked hopes of a standout performance.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t capitalize on that start, managing just 90 more runs across the remaining matches. By the end of the five-Test series, Kohli had amassed only 190 runs in nine innings, with an average of 23.75. This underperformance has led to questions about his future in Test cricket.
