Dilip Vengsarkar provides a massive update on Rohit Sharma's future: The India National Cricket Team will be up against the England National Cricket Team in a three-match ODI series. Ahead of that, the Men in Blue will be playing 5 T20I matches against the Three Lions. Shubman Gill and his side, the last time they visited England, were excellent in the Test series, drawing the series 2-2.
This is a different assignment in the 50-over format in England. The Men in Blue side the last time they visited England for an ODI series back in 2022, when Rohit Sharma was the captain of the side, with the Men in Blue dominating the series and winning it 2-1. Shubman Gill will be looking to follow the same path after winning his first series against Afghanistan as ODI captain.
Will Rohit Sharma feature in the 2027 World Cup?
Four years later, Rohit Sharma returns to England, as he has been named in the 15-man squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, the role for the veteran batter this time is different as he is no longer the captain of the side and currently plays only as a batter, and is also trying to figure out his place in the team.
He has been one of the most talked-about players in ODI cricket, given his age. The former India captain is already 39 and will turn 40+ by next year’s ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. However, he continues to perform for India as an opener despite a poor string of scores.

"Well, it's up to the individual player. They have been fantastic players. They have done so well for India and for themselves. I mean, it's up to them. Well, he's [Rohit Sharma] been playing international cricket for the last 20 years. And I'm sure he knows best how to go about things. And he's done exceptionally well for India."
Rohit Sharma's recent form
The Mumbai-based batter had a sensational series in Australia, where he finished as the leading run getter in the series, accumulating 202 runs across 3 innings at a staggering average of 101.00. He was named the Player of the Series for his outstanding batting performances, which included a half-century and an unbeaten century.
The 39-year-old opener in the following series against South Africa was decent as he scored 146 runs in three matches with an average of 48.66, scoring two half-centuries in the series. However, 2026 has been a struggle against New Zealand; he failed to create much impact, scoring just 61 runs in 3 innings.
After the series against the Black Caps, many believed that the Afghanistan series would be the last, but Rohit once again stepped up and got good starts, but failed to convert them into three-figure marks. He scored 143 runs at an average of 47.67, featuring a standout half-century. Rohit will look to continue his form in England as well and score at least a hundred.
