It was agony for South Africa while ecstasy for India as Barbados painted two different emotions of the two teams after the T20 World Cup final.

India defeated South Africa by seven runs to win their second ICC T20 World Cup title and the first one since 2007. It was also India's first ICC title since 2013.

Raw emotions were on show after the result of the final. The faces told the story as players from both teams had tears in their eyes. South Africa challenged India throughout the contest. The pendulum swung in favour of both teams from time to time and India ultimately kept their calm to win the match in the tense final overs.

South Africa lost from a position where they needed around 30-odd runs from the final five overs. Heinrich Klaasesn's wicket in the 17th over was the turning point of the match for India. David Miller's wicket in the final over of the match by Hardik Pandya sealed the game for India with the Proteas needing 16 to win.

For South Africa who reached their first-ever Men's ICC final, it was heartbreak for them. They played with all the might but in the end, came second in a riveting contest. They were in the game with Klaasen smashing 57 off 27 balls. It was his dismissal that gave India a slight chance into the game and they piled on the pressure on the South Africans.

The entire South African squad was in tears after the loss. The likes of Quinton de Kock, Davis Miller, Keshav Maharaj, Marco Jansen, and others could not hold back their tears. Miller was seen hugging his wife in despair as well. It was a case of so near yet so far for the South Africans.

Aiden Markram led the team beautifully throughout the tournament. They won 8 games in the lead-up to the final including the group stage and the Super 8s. Talking about South Africa's Super 8 journey, in their first match, they comfortably beat the USA by 18 runs on June 19 before pulling off a great win over England by 7 runs on June 21. They next defeated West Indies, which they did by 3 wickets and 5 balls remaining, to book a place in the semi-finals.

They were tested by various teams but they found a way to win. However, the story for this team will be about letting another one slip after looking probably the best team in the tournament till the final. Once again the side choked under pressure and the players only have themselves to blame for a loss for letting that slip.
