Australia opener David Warner played an outrageous shot for a six in the ongoing first Test against Pakistan in Perth. The left-handed batsman is playing his last Test series for Australia. Earlier this year, the veteran opener had announced that he would bring down the curtains on his illustrious Test career after the three-match series against Pakistan.

He was under immense pressure even before the start of the game as his spot in the Test team was questioned by many because of his poor form in red-ball cricket in recent times. His former teammate Mitchell Johnson had launched a scathing attack towards him and had said that the opener did not deserve the farewell because of his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal as well as his form.

Even his former opening partner Ed Cowan had also questioned his spot in the playing eleven. David Warner, however, did not let the criticism affect him as he came out all guns blazing in the ongoing first innings of the Test. The southpaw raced away to his 37th Test fifty by hitting three fours in a Faheem Ashraf over. He completed his fifty in just 41 balls.

One of the best shots of his knock came against Shaheen Afridi in the 22nd over. On the second ball of the over, the Australia star played an outrageous scoop shot for a six. The Pakistan pacer had bowled the delivery well outside the off stump and David Warner managed to scoop it for a six over fine leg while falling over his back.

After Australia won the toss and elected to field first, David Warner led his team’s charge with the bat. At the end of the first session, the hosts had run away to 117 for no loss in just 25 overs. The opener smashed 72 runs off just 67 balls in the first session while his partner Usman Khawaja was unbeaten on 37 off 84 balls.

In the second session, Shaheen Afridi finally gave Pakistan the much-needed first breakthrough by dismissing Khawaja for 41. At the time of writing this report, Australia were on 149 for 1 with Warner at 84 and Marnus Labuschagne at 11.
