Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma did it for the London Spirit Women's team as her six helped the team win their maiden title in the Women's Hundred competition. It was a cracking final that had a brilliant tense finish with Deepti emerging as the superwoman.
London Spirit needed 10 off nine balls which came down to four off three and Deepti hit Hayley Mathews for a six over long on boundary. The shot was just good enough for a six as it eclipsed the stretching hands of Shabnim Ismail who was fielding it long on.
The Indian all-rounder remained cool and calm under pressure as she executed her shot to perfection. She scored 16 off 16 balls and played very sensibly in a tough situation as she won the game for her side.
The scenes in the London Spirit Women's dressing room after Deepti's six was one to watch. The players came running to congratulate Deepti for her incredible achievement. There was a sense of relief on Heather Knight's face after her side had finally won their maiden Women's Hundred title.

The commentary of Mel Jones added to the drama of the match as well as she managed to build up the scenario perfectly. The Spirit players and teammates congratulated each other as India's Deepti Sharma was the stand-out player of the match.
Earlier in the game, London Spirit won the toss and elected to field first. Sarah Glenn and Eva Gray took two wickets each and Deepti one to restrict the Welsh Fire to 115/8. The Fire's innings were controlled by Jess Jonassen's 54 off 41 balls. A couple of 20s from skipper Tammy Beaumont and Hayley Mathews helped them get to that score.
In the chase, it was a combined effort from the London Spirit batters to get to that score. Wicketkeeper Georgia Redmayne top-scored with 34. Skipper Heather Knight (24) and Danielle Gibson (22) contributed crucial runs to take the side closer. Ultimately, it was Deept Sharma's unbeaten 16 and more importantly, that six that took them to a win. The keeper-batter was named the Player Of The Match as she top-scored with 34 in the chase.
"To hit the six to win the game, a great feeling, I was not nervous, I had confidence I could do it. I think positive!" said Deepti Sharma.
Skipper Heather Knight complimented her players for their contribution to this win and had special words of praise for Deepti Sharma for her special feat with the bat. Deepti was able to stamp the importance of an Indian player in an overseas cricket league.
"Not the best watch to be honest, it was nervy chasing but Deepti is an experienced player, she held her nerves and did it for us. Our international players were great. Everyone has played their roles well. I think we recruited really well, picking Meg and Georgia."
"Absolutely stoked with Deepti, she has been brilliant with both bat and ball. Eva Gray was good with the ball as well. So much goes into the tournament, thankful to the staff, it takes a lot of effort in franchise cricket" Heather Knight said in her post-match press conference comments.
