Rain and the Gabba Test are going hand in hand, and it seems that no one is more frustrated by the poor weather than Mitchell Starc in the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Brisbane.
The rain is playing hide and seek in Brisbane, and players are just disappointed. After Rishabh Pant’s wicket, Mitchell Starc was looking to capitalize on the momentum, but yet again, the showers hit the Gabba, and the match officials had to stop the play.

As the umpires signaled for the rain break, Starc looked dejected and refused to leave the field. As the rain delayed the Day 3 play yet again and the ground staff started covering the pitch, Mitchell Starc was seen standing right at his spot and was seen expressing his frustration.

Before the forced tea break due to steady rain in Brisbane, Mitchell Starc dismissed the Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (4) and Shubman Gill (1), while Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood got rid of Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli, respectively, to push Team India to the back foot.
Mitchell Starc gives perfect medicine to Yashasvi Jaiswal at The Gabba
Well, India is in deep trouble in the ongoing Gabba Test after Australia was bowled out for 445 runs in their first innings in Brisbane. Now, a target of 246 is needed for the Indian cricket team to avoid the follow-on, and it seems like a long way off for now, as they are now four down for just a 45+ score.
Speaking about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wicket, it was the second ball of India’s innings, and the young opener couldn’t believe his dismissal by none other than Starc. The ball was bowled at 139 kph, a half-volley on middle and leg, and Jaiswal tried to flick it but ended up chipping it straight to Mitchell Marsh at short midwicket.
Starc smiled and stuck his tongue out in celebration as Yashasvi fell for 4. Notably, Jaiswal had been practicing the flick shot during the break, but it led to his downfall in the very important match for India at The Gabba against Australia. During the warm-up on Day 3 of the third Test on Monday, Yashasvi Jaiswal flicked a throwdown straight towards the Australian team huddle.
Michael Vaughan takes a jibe at Yashasvi Jaiswal over his dismissal
The ball struck the Cricket Australia cameraman on his legs, causing some frustration among the hosts. However, Jaiswal quickly apologized for the incident. Now, after his dismissal to the same shot, former England captain and commentator Michael Vaughan took a dig at the Indian opener.
Michael Vaughan said on-air: “That’s one way of getting ahead of the game… he’s just trying to take out Mitchell Starc before the game starts. Five minutes before Jaiswal got out, this is the shot he practiced that whip through mid-wicket, wonderful shot and good balance. And then you go into the match and it’s the same shot but he goes aerial, just flicks it. It was the pressure of the game, in practice it’s perfect.”
