Middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed by a stunning one-handed catch by Devon Conway off the bowling of Matt Henry during the first Test between India and New Zealand at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

It was the fourth ball of the tenth over of India's first innings when New Zealand seamer Matt Henry bowled a length ball outside off stump. But in a brain fade moment, Sarfaraz tried to counter-attack and was taken by Devon Conway after diving to his right.

Seeing that the mid-off was wide, Sarfaraz looked to hit the ball straight past Devon Conway. But the youngster could not connect the ball cleanly. Devon Conway, who was standing quite wide, stretched well and stuck his right hand to take a stunning catch.

Watch- Sarfaraz Khan's brain fade moment as Devon Conway takes a one-handed stunner

It was an outstanding catch from Devon Conway who was thrilled to complete this catch. The New Zealand opener was then mobbed by his teammates in celebration. However, it was an awful shot from Sarfaraz Khan, who was facing just the third ball of the match.

Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed for a third-ball duck after coming in to bat at No. 4. He is usually an aggressive batter but this time, he did not connect the ball well as the bat turned in his hands, resulting in the ball not going too far.

It was the third wicket of the day for New Zealand as they ripped apart India's batting line-up with the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Sarfaraz Khan. NZ reduced India to 10-3 inside the first 10 overs.

Sarfaraz Khan comes in for Shubman Gill

Sarfaraz Khan got an opportunity in this game because of Shubman Gill's absence, who was ruled out of the match because of a stiff neck. It is a crucial Test match for Sarfaraz, who is fighting hard to make it to India's first-choice Playing XI.

But the duck in this innings won't help his cause. He will be hoping for a significant score in India's second innings to make a strong case for himself before Shubman Gill comes back into the XI.

Sarfaraz is in good form as he smashed an unbeaten 222 off 286 balls in the Irani Cup match for Mumbai against Rest of India recently. The right-hander smashed 25 fours and 4 sixes during his knock and presented a strong case to be a part of India's Playing XI in Tests.

Indian top order rocked early by NZ seamers

Earlier in the day, India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first under overcast conditions at Bengaluru. The play started on time after the first day was washed out due to rain.

India survived the first six overs but lost the captain Rohit Sharma off a brillianrt delivery from Tim Southee. Virat Kohli walked in at No. 3 and but was dismissed by William O'Rourke for a ninth-ball duck.
