Sri Lankan cricketer Dhananjaya de Silva endured an embarrassing mode of dismissal during the second day of the first Test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies that is taking place in Galle.

In the 95th over bowled by express pacer Shannon Gabriel, Dhananjaya attempted a defensive push onto the off-side but the ball caught the under edge and was heading towards the top of the stumps.

In a reflexive manner, the batter turned around to fend the ball away but failed in his first attempt. The ball lobbed up and in his effort to push it away once more, Dhananjaya accidentally knocked the stumps off with his willow.

The embarrassment was evident on Dhananjaya’s face and he held his bat to his face in shame. The all-rounder had to walk back after scoring a brisk 61 off 95 balls and it provided the West Indian side a window to come back into the game.

After Sri Lanka lost Angelo Mathews with the score on 170, the Windies tried to go for the kill but Dhananjaya and the skipper, Dimuth Karunaratne stitched a 111-run association to tilt the scales back in the home side’s favor.

In the latest update, Sri Lanka had reached 325/5 in 112 overs with Dinesh Chandimal and Ramesh Mendis at the crease. Karunaratne was sent back by Roston Chase after scoring a well-crafted 147, his thirteenth Test century.
