Young Team India wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel narrowly missed his century during the 2024 Irani Cup match between the Rest of India and Mumbai. Dhruv Jurel was disappointed as he fell just short of the milestone on Day 4 of the game at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, October 4.

Mumbai posted a mammoth total of 537 in their first innings after being asked to bat first. Sarfaraz Khan was the top scorer for Mumbai with an unbeaten 222 runs off 286 balls, including 25 boundaries and four sixes. Tanush Kotian 64 (124) and Shreyas Iyer 57 (84) chipped in with useful contributions.

Mukesh Kumar was the leading wicket-taker for the Rest of India in the first-class match. The right-arm pacer picked up five wickets for 110 runs. Yash Dayal and Prasidh Krishna secured two wickets each, while Saransh Jain took one wicket in the first innings.

The rest of India responded brilliantly in response to Mumbai's threatening score of 537. Dhruv Jurel entered the game with a score of 228/4. He joined opener Abhimanyu Easwaran at the crease. They added a crucial 168-run stand for the fifth wicket. Jurel was the more aggressive in the partnership.

The 23-year-old was dismissed by left-arm spinner Shams Mulani in the 101st over of the Rest of India’s first innings. Mulani bowled from the round the wicket. Jurel tried to guide the delivery that landed on the rough outside the leg stump towards fine leg but edged it to wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore.

Hardik Tamore completed a brilliant catch despite being blinded by Jurel. The right-handed batter was dismissed after scoring well-placed 93 runs off 121 balls with the help of one six and 13 boundaries. Jurel was visibly disappointed and shook his head as he walked back to the dressing room.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) domestic's official handle shared the video of Jurel's dismissal on X (formerly Twitter).

"Partnership Breaker! Shams Mulani breaks the 165-run stand as he has Dhruv Jurel (93) caught behind. An excellent catch from Hardik Tamore. Jurel misses out on his ton as a fine innings ends," wrote the caption.

Don't Think Dhruv Jurel Will Make A Comeback - Parthiv Patel

Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel believes that Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan will have to wait for their chances in the national team.

"I don't think Sarfaraz and Dhruv will make a comeback to the side. Rishabh has just made a comeback. Both of them are very very talented players and very much ready for Test cricket. But they will have to wait for their chances,” Patel told ANI (via msn.com).
