Dinesh Karthik of India almost made a meal of a skier catch given by Rilee Russouw but managed to catch it in his third attempt during the ongoing second T20I between India and South Africa being played at the Barsapara cricket ground in Guwahati, Assam on October 2, 2022.
South Africa came into this match looking to draw level in the three-match series which India leads 1-0 after the comprehensive win in the first match in Trivandrum. India, on the other hand, was confirmed to be without Jasprit Bumrah’s services in the remainder of the series.
Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose that South Africa will bowl first. The Proteas made one change as Lungi Ngidi came in for Tabraiz Shamsi, while the Indian team remained unchanged despite bringing in Mohammed Siraj into the squad as a replacement for injured Bumrah.
This was also Rohit Sharma’s 400th T20I match and he became the first Indian to reach this milestone.
It was nothing short of a massacre of South African bowlers at the hands of Indian batters as two major partnerships battered the opposition in two halves of the game. First was the 96-run partnership between KL Rahul, who made 57 in 28 balls and Rohit Sharma, who made 43 in 37 balls.
However, then came the hurricane partnership of 102 runs in 42 balls between Suryakumar Yadav, who blasted 61 runs in 22 balls and Virat Kohli, who remained not out on 49. Even Dinesh Karthik contributed 17* in 7 balls as India posted 237/3 in 20 overs.

In reply, captain Temba Bavuma couldn’t score for the second time in a row in this series, getting caught by Virat Kohli off the bowling of Arshdeep Singh and then Rilee Russouw tried to take the attack to Arshdeep on the second ball he faced.
He advanced down the track and tried to hoick the short ball, only top-edging it in the air. Dinesh Karthik stationed at cover fumbled the ball twice before finally grasping it a the third attempt. This left Proteas two down for one run inside the first two overs.
