Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad were one of the most exciting teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. If there was any team who would've given a tough competition to Kolkata Knight Riders, it was the Orange Army as they redefined the way the game was played. 

Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved incredible things in the tournament. They were the most threatening team in the league as almost every opposition feared the way they batted at the top, especially Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad ended the league stage second on the points table. They faced a disappointing loss against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Qualifier 1. But after that, they made a sensational comeback, thumping Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 and advancing to the final of the tournament at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. 

It was expected that Sunrisers Hyderabad would give tough competition to the Kolkata Knight Riders and take their revenge. But it wasn't meant to be as they were blown away in the summit clash and bagged a thrashing 8-wicket loss at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (26th May). 

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to bat first and it seemed that it would be another big scoring performance from them. But it didn't happen as they had the worst night with the bat. The Orange Army got all out on just 113 runs as no batter could go past the 25-run mark at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. 

With the ball, they didn't have enough to defend. Even though they took two wickets but a valiant half-century by Venkatesh Iyer took Kolkata Knight Riders to the win. This was their third title in the league as they chased the target inside just 11 overs and won their third game over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the season.

After the loss, Sunrisers Hyderabad players looked absolutely dejected. But the co-owner of the franchise, Kavya Maran, who was in tears, made sure she entered the dressing room and lifted the mood of the players. She lauded the cricketers for their terrific effort throughout the season and stated: 

"You all have made us so proud. I had to come here and tell you that. I mean you have redefined the way we play T20 cricket and everyone is talking about us. The off-day had to happen today, but a really great job, all of you with the bat and ball. Thank you so much," Kavya said.

"And I think even though we finished last place last year, I think all the fans came out in huge numbers because of the potential you guys had. Everyone's talking about us and even though KKR won, I am sure everyone's still going to be talking about the style of cricket we have played. Thank you guys, take care and don't look like this. We played the final, it wasn't just any other game. I mean all the other teams have been watching us tonight. Thank you guys, I will see you soon," Kavya added.
