Dawid Malan, the current No.1 ranked T20I batsman in the world, is enthralling the folklore in the ongoing Big Bash League.
Malan has successfully carried his international T20 form to the BBL, and on Saturday, the southpaw was at his blistering best as he smoked a whirlwind 56-ball 75- an innings which included seven fours and three sixes- against the Glenn Maxwell-led Melbourne Stars.
One of those three sixes that Dawid Malan paved way for an epic scene that led to a spectator becoming a proud owner of the ball.
It all happened in the 16th over of the Hobart Hurricanes innings when Dawid Malan hammered Lance Morris’s length delivery for a six over deep square-leg.
Sensing an opportunity to catch the ball, a spectator ended up dropping it, which led to the ball falling in the beer jug of a man sitting adjacent to him.
The man proceeded to drink his beer with the ball still inside it. He initially refused to return the cherry before eventually giving it back. However, by that point, the on-field umpires had already decided to replace the ball.
Coming back to the match, Malan’s rapid 56-ball 75 helped Hobart Hurricanes post 5/164 in 20 overs. Glenn Maxwell’s swashbuckling knock of 37-ball 70 which included as many as six fours and five sixes led the way for Melbourne Stars.
However, in the absence of any substantial support from the other end, Maxi’s efforts went in vain as the Stars eventually fell short by 21 runs.
