Rishabh Pant has become a darling of Indian cricket team fans not only because of his swashbuckling batting but also because of his hilarious banter from behind the stumps while he keeps wickets.

He has been on top of his verbal game throughout the four-Test series, constantly egging fielders to lift their body language through rib-tickling wordplay. Pant also helped India get a wicket or two, especially Zak Crawley, who was sledged in a funny way by Rishabh Pant before losing his cool and throwing his wicket away.

At one point, Rishabh Pant was caught quipping “Mera naam hai Washington; Mujhe jana hai DC (My name is Washington; I want to go DC).”

Some of his other gems during the series was “Ollie Pope ko lollipop do (Give a lollipop to Ollie Pope)”, “Ball ghoomega toh ye jhoomega (When the ball spins, he struggles), and “Thoda sa aage, Milkha Singh bhaage.”

His quips from behind the stumps were mentioned by Harsha Bhogle when Rishabh Pant came forward to get his Man of the Match award during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Harsha Bhogle jokingly complained to Pant that commentators are being asked to keep quiet when the wicketkeeper is engaging with the players from behind the stumps. Even the fans loved Pant’s chirps over the commentary, as evident from social media.

However, Rishabh Pant came up with an unreal reply, in the most unabashed tone, asking the commentary panel to raise their game if they are feeling the heat from his chirping from behind the stumps.

“Ab sir yeh mera compliment hai ya thoda aapko problem ho raha hai toh aap improve karo [Sir, i don’t know if it’s a compliment for me or you all should improve a bit if you have a problem with it],” Pant replied after taking it as a compliment.

Rishabh Pant was the second-highest scorer in the recently-concluded four-match Test series against England, scoring 270 runs with one century and 2 half-centuries at an average of 54. His highest score was 101, which came in the fourth Test, helping India put on 365 runs on the board from 146/6 at one point.
