Disastrous scenes unfolded during the second ODI of the three-match series between the India National Cricket Team and the England National Cricket Team at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday, February 9.
A floodlight malfunction saw the India vs England match being halted and there was a major delay that left the skipper of the home team, Rohit Sharma, quite frustrated.
Floodlight failure causes chaos in Cuttack
During the second innings of the match, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided India with a great start while chasing the target.
The Indian skipper, in particular, looked really good to the eyes and he played some eye-catching strokes. Rohit was going all guns blazing and even registered his highest score in the last 11 innings in international cricket.
However, his momentum was broken when one of the floodlight towers went off. Ahead of the seventh over, one of the floodlights flickered and then went off. After a small break, play resumed, but then, just after one ball of Saqib Mahmood's over, the lights once again went off.
Rohit Sharma was not at all happy with the way things were unfolding in front of his eyes and shook his head in frustration. The floodlights were back for a few minutes only to go off again and after a chat with the umpire, Rohit was keen to continue.
However, players were forced to walk off the field as the light was considered inappropriate for the play to continue. There was close to a 30-minute break in the match due to the malfunction, but the officials managed to fix the issue and the match resumed.

What happened in India vs England 1st ODI in Nagpur?
India clinched a 4-wicket win over England in the first ODI of the series in Nagpur, chasing down 249 with 68 balls remaining. The match saw standout performances from Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and debutant Harshit Rana, while England struggled to get going.
England batted first and looked strong at 75/0, with Phil Salt (43) and Ben Duckett (32) providing an aggressive start. However, a middle-order collapse, triggered by a run-out and Harshit Rana’s double wicket, saw them slump to 77/3.
Jos Buttler (52) and Jacob Bethell (51) played really well to provide some stability to the innings, but the Indian bowling unit led by Jadeja (3/26) and Rana (3/53) restricted them to 248.
In the run chase, India lost two early wickets, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (15) and Rohit Sharma (2) getting dismissed. However, Shreyas Iyer (59) played an attacking knock, and Shubman Gill played a classy and cautious 87-run knock. Axar Patel also chipped in with 52 runs and despite a few late wickets, India chased down the target with ease.
Adil Rashid (2/49) and Saqib Mahmood (2/47) were the only bowlers who made an impact for England, but that wasn't enough to secure a win.
