Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant showcased resistance after the team lost three early wickets on Day 1. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant added an unbeaten half-century partnership before the lunch break in India’s first innings of the ongoing Test against Bangladesh.
Hasan Mahmud ran through the Indian top order after Najmul Hossain Shanto opted to bowl first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, September 19. He picked up the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli in the first session, leaving India at 34/3 inside 10 overs.
Rohit Sharma was saved by the umpire's call when he was on 1. However, the Indian skipper managed to score just 6 runs before being caught by Najmul Hasan Shanto. Shubman Gill lasted only eight balls and was dismissed for a duck. Gill edged the legside delivery to wicketkeeper Litton Das.
Virat Kohli entered the Chepauk amid loud cheers from the crowd. He looked confident, but his old weakness resurfaced. The right-handed batter attempted an unnecessary drive to a ball outside off-stump from Hasan Mahmud. The ball took the edge of Kohli's bat and was caught by Litton Das.

The Rohit Sharma-led team ended the first session of play with 88/3 after 23 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant started the second session, but Bangladesh managed to break the partnership early in the session. Hasan Mahmud dismissed Pant to secure his fourth wicket of the match.
The left-handed batter edged a short delivery to wicketkeeper Litton Das, who took an easy catch. Pant was frustrated with his shot selection and slammed his bat onto his pad before walking off. Head coach Gautam Gambhir also shook his head in disappointment at Pant's dismissal.

It’s worth mentioning that the Indian wicketkeeper-batter smashed a boundary off the ball before his dismissal. Pant cut the short delivery wide of point, and it raced away. However, the young batter was not confident while playing the shot on the delivery he was dismissed by against Hasan Mahmud.
