Cricket fans got to see the completely new avatar of Gautam Gambhir after the India National Cricket Team clinched the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, all thanks to the former cricketer and well-known commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Gautam Gambhir celebrated his first major triumph as India National Cricket Team head coach in a never-seen-before style as the Men in Blue defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the final to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9.
Gautam Gambhir silences his critics in style
Taking charge after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended with the T20 World Cup 2024 victory, Gambhir faced intense scrutiny after the team’s historic ODI series loss to Sri Lanka and whitewash at the hands of New Zealand at home and Test series loss to Australia last year.
However, the former Indian batter silenced critics in the best possible way, guiding India to their third Champions Trophy title. With this title glory, India became the most successful team in the tournament’s history with their back-to-back ICC trophy wins within just 10 months.
Amid the grand celebrations at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, an unexpected and heartwarming moment unfolded between Gambhir and Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Navjot Sidhu, who is known for his poetic flair, requested Gambhir to step out of his usual serious persona and embrace the moment, as the entire stadium was cherishing the historic moment on Sunday.
At Sidhu’s insistence, Gamhir unleashed his inner Mirza Ghalib, cracking a ‘sher’ and also almost breaking into a ‘bhangra’ dance, a rare sight that left fans and players delighted.
In a video shared by Star Sports, Gambhir decided to sum up India’s win in Sidhu’s signature style—through poetry. With a playful smile, Gambhir started reciting a ‘sher’ and pushed Sidhu to complete it.
The former cricketer-turned-commentator gladly joined in, making the exchange even more entertaining. Gambhir said, “Fann kuchalne ka hunar seekhiye janaab… Complete the rest.” Later, Sidhu completed the ‘sher’ saying, “Saanpo ke darr se jungle nahi chhode jaate.”

Later, Sidhu tried to convince Gambhir to do a few bhangra steps by saying, “Please create one more piece of history today. It's a request from me, an elder brother. Show us some bhangra today.” However, the Indian head coach refused by saying, “Arre nahi, main chala jaunga (No way, I'll leave).”
However, Sidhu and Aakash Chopra managed to get a small reaction out of him. Gambhir finally lifted a finger in the air, just enough to join Sidhu, who danced to 'Sauda Khara Khara' in the viral video shared by the official broadcaster on the social media handle X.
