Varun Chakravarthy Castles Harry Brook As Batter Smiles

Harry Brook's weakness against spinners was once again exposed by Varun Chakravarthy as the India spinner clean-bowled the England batsman during the second T20I at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday (January 25).

For the second game in a row, Harry Brook was undone by a wrong'un from Chakravarthy. The right-handed batsman started his innings in a quick fashion, hitting a six and a four to race away to 13 off 7 balls.

However, it took Chakravarthy just one delivery to send him back. Introduced into the attack to bowl the seventh over, Chakravarthy bowled the first two deliveries to Jos Buttler before castling Harry Brook on the third.

The ball had landed just outside the off stump and Harry Brook was expecting it to turn away. However, the ball turned in and passed through the big gap between bat and pad to hit the stumps. Brook's reaction after the dismissal said it all as he was seen smiling while looking at Chakravarthy before walking away.

Sunil Gavaskar, and Ravi Shastri take a dig at Harry Brook

As soon as Harry Brook was bamboozled by Varun Chakravarthy, former India cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri could snot top themselves from taking a sly dig at the England batter. The India legends were quick to remind Brook that he failed against the spinner even when his visibility was not affected by smog.

Shastri and Gavaskar's comments were in reference to Brook's comments regarding his and his teammates' struggle against spinners in the first T20I at the Eden Gardens earlier this week. The right-handed batsman had blamed smog for England players' poor performance against the India spinners.

"I didn't face Bishnoi but Chakravarthy is an exceptionally good bowler," Brook had said. "He's tough to pick. I think actually with the smog the other night, it was a lot harder to pick as well. Hopefully, the air is a bit clearer here and we can see the ball a bit easier.

And after Chakravarthy dismissed the England star, Gavaskar said: "Chakravarthy might be asking if there's any smog?"

On the other hand, Shastri said: "You don't need the smog tonight. It sneaked through."
