Namibian skipper Gerhard Erasmus grabbed attention with his bowling against Oman during the third match in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Gerhard Erasmus mimicked Scotland spinner Matt Watt by bowling from 23 yards, and the video went viral across social media platforms on the internet.

Gerhard Erasmus opted to bowl first after winning the toss at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Monday, June 3. Left-arm fast bowler Ruben Trumpelmann provided an early breakthrough for the Namibia team by dismissing Oman opener Kashyap Prajapati with a superb yorker on his very first delivery.

Trumpelmann trapped Oman skipper Aqib Ilyas with a magnificent yorker on the very next ball. Trumpelmann dismissed Naseem Khushi, who scored six runs off six deliveries, in his second over. Experienced player Zeeshan Maqsood was dismissed in the seventh over after scoring 22 runs off 20 deliveries.

Bernard Scholtz and Gerhard Erasmus delivered disciplined bowling to keep the run-scoring down. Oman failed to score a boundary between the 10th and 17th overs. Erasmus picked up two wickets for 20 runs in his overs, while Scholtz conceded 20 runs and took one wicket in his four-over quota.

Chasing a modest 110, Namibia lost the wicket of Michael van Lingen on the second ball of the first over. Nikolaas Davin, who scored 24 off 31 balls, added a 42-run partnership with Jan Frylinck. Erasmus failed to make an impact with the bat as he was dismissed for 13 off 16 balls, leaving Namibia at 75/3 in 14.3 overs.

The Namibian team was in a position to chase down the target. However, they managed to score 109 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Oman showed exceptional fighting spirit in the deathovers. Experienced all-rounder David Wiese failed to guide the team to victory when two runs were needed off the final delivery.

In the Super-Over, David Wiese and Gerhard Erasmus helped Namibia score 21 runs. Wiese smashed a boundary and a massive six to set the tone for his team, while Erasmus finished the over with two boundaries. Wiese also took a wicket during the Super-Over, dashing Oman's hopes of winning the match.

Difficult To Get Momentum - Gerhard Erasmus

Gerhard Erasmus expressed the challenge of maintaining momentum throughout the innings. Erasmus highlighted the difficulty in executing boundaries on such a pitch.

"Difficult to get momentum through the innings, we tried by getting the singles and doubles but every now and then we needed those boundaries which were difficult to execute. On a pitch like that, you need to take responsibility after batting 15-20 balls, and you shouldn't allow new batters to face. In the Super Over we proved that there are runs to be had if you just assess the pitch well and take responsibility," Erasmus said.
