England National Cricket Team pacer Gus Atkinson had a terrific outing with the bat in the ongoing second Test against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The penultimate game of the series between the teams is taking place at the home of cricket Lord's Cricket Ground in London.
Gus Atkinson, who is known for his fast bowling, stole the limelight with his batting in the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The right-hander came up with a sensational effort with the bat and outplayed the opposition as he slammed bowlers all over the park.
Gus Atkinson came to bat at No.8 and what he did with the bat was something that many didn't expect. The fast bowler batted like a dream, and it didn't seem that he was not batting regularly in Test cricket. He put his team in the dominating position and ensured they went past 400 runs on the board.
With the way, he was batting, it needed something special to remove him and Sri Lanka National Cricket Team player Milan Rathnayake did that. He picked a sensational catch at the boundary ropes at deep-ish midwicket, to send the batter packing and bring his team back in the game.
Asitha Fernando bowled a short ball to which Gus Atkinson cleared his front leg and attempted to hit the ball out of the park.
The ball hit him high on the bat and hence the batter couldn't generate enough power behind it. Milan Rathnayake, who was at deep-ish midwicket, moved back sideways and timed his jump perfectly looking over his right shoulder to take a brilliant catch.

Atkinson brought up his maiden Test century at the home of cricket. He ended with an inning of 118 runs off 114 balls. He also slammed 4 sixes in his innings, which is the joint third-most sixes in the venue by any batter.
His ton helped the England National Cricket Team post a total of 427 runs on the board. He would now be keen to help his team with the ball and put them in a strong position.
It's like watching someone like Jacques Kallis play - Joe Root on Gus Atkinson
Joe Root, who played an inning of 143 runs and also added 92 runs with Gus Atkinson, was in awe of the way the fast bowler batted.
He correlated his batting with South Africa legend Jacques Kallis, saying that their partnership put the England National Cricket Team in a good position. Speaking in a video posted by ECB, he explained:
"Yeah, it was good, it was nice. I'll tell you why I was good watching Gussy bat at the end, being at the other end when he hit those straight sixes, they were unbelievable. It's like watching someone like Jacques Kallis play.
"It was a great little innings from him, and there were some good partnerships along the way, and we’ve found ourselves in a really good position now."
