Hardik Pandya plays an explosive knock

The MI skipper Hardik played an explosive knock against the Punjab Kings, but he was unable to play a long innings and got dismissed in the 17th over.

When Hardik arrived in the middle following the end of Will Jacks' quickfire knock, he got a lifeline in the 13th over. Pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak messed up a simple catch in the follow-through and dropped Hardik when he was batting on 0.

Hardik Pandya made sure to make the Punjab Kings pay for the blunder, and he smashed the bowlers all over the park. He slammed 26 runs off 15 balls before being dismissed, and his innings consisted of two fours and two sixes.

Hardik Pandya was cleaned up by the star left-arm pacer Marco Jansen in the 17th over. On the second ball of the over, Marco Jansen bowled a length delivery slanting across outside off-stump, and Hardik threw his hands at it, looking to slash it away.

Hardik went hard on his shot, but he could only manage a thick outside edge, and the ball went into the gloves of Josh Inglis. The Mumbai Indians were in utter disbelief after nicking off, and he kept his bat on his head, standing in the middle for a few seconds in disappointment.

Mumbai Indians backed to beat Punjab Kings

Speaking on ESPNCricinfo ahead of the match, bowling great Anil Kumble predicted that the Mumbai Indians would win the match against the Punjab Kings. He said:

"I think Mumbai. Mumbai certainly with the kind of form and the kind of lineup that they have. And they have 10 international players. Naman Dhir is the 11th and he's not far. I mean, he showed last game what he can do. And I think Mumbai has a really strong side."

During the same discussion, Tom Moody also lauded the Mumbai Indians, saying that the other teams fear the 5-time champions. He elaborated:

"Yeah, well, the world's opened up for them, hasn't it? And as you quite rightly say, a couple of weeks ago, they were scrambling to think, is this going to be another year of lost opportunity, missed finals? So they've got into the top four, still with a chance of being in the top two.

"So they're a side that, you know, from an opposition point of view, you fear is a serious threat purely because of the depth of quality they've got, both with international and more in particular, their domestic talent is extraordinary compared to most other teams. But yeah, they're playing the right cricket, the right brand of cricket and confident cricket at the right time."
