After losing the T20I series 1-2, the Indian women’s cricket team are taking on England in a one-off Test match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, December 14. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was dismissed in a bizarre way on the opening day of the match.
The Indian team opted to bat first after winning the toss against England. Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Thakur, and Shubha Satheesh made their Test debuts for the hosts. In the absence of Emma Lamb, England have promoted Sophia Dunkley in the playing XI.

Harmanpreet Kaur fell short of completing her half-century by one run while attempting to take a quick single after playing the ball towards cover. Yastika Bhatia wasn’t interested and sent Kaur back. However, the Indian skipper’s bat got stuck at the crease’s edge.
The English players appealed, and the third umpire confirmed that Harmanpreet was out as her bails were removed by wicketkeeper Amy Jones. The right-handed batter had to go back to the pavilion after scoring 49 runs off 81 deliveries with the help of 6 boundaries.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal is not the first time she has experienced such an unfortunate scenario. Earlier this year, during the T20 World Cup semifinal against Australia, she faced an identical dismissal. Unfortunately, India ended up losing the match by five runs.
The Indian women’s team have not participated in a red-ball game for the past two years. Their last Test match was against Australia, which concluded in a draw, with Smriti Mandhana earning the Player of the Match award for her impressive innings of 127 in the first innings.
