KL Rahul scores 40 runs in the Ahmedabad ODI

Rahul has been preferred over Rishabh Pant in the India ODI XI as a wicketkeeper-batsman. However, he was demoted in the batting order as Gautam Gambhir wanted to continue his left-right formula.

Axar Patel was given the opportunity to bat at the No.5 position and he didn't disappoint, scoring good runs in the first two games. Also, many experts blasted the Indian team management for the demotion of the wicketkeeper-batsman.

KL Rahul, meanwhile, got the opportunity to bat at No.5 in the dead rubber game against England and he delivered a decent performance. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored a good 40 runs off 29 balls, with 3 fours and 1 six, before being dismissed by Saqib Mahmood.

Meanwhile, Rahul was involved in an unfortunate incident during the second innings. On the first ball of the second over, Harshit Rana came to bowl and he hit wicketkeeper Rahul on his left knee.

Rana bowled a short-of-a-length delivery, and the ball surprisingly remained low, getting no bounce whatsoever. KL Rahul bent his knee to collect the ball and it went on to hit him in the front of his knee.

The Indian gloveman looked in extreme pain, and he was down on the ground for some time and then was seen limping in pain. The physio came in running to check on Rahul, but the Indian keeper denied taking treatment, signaling all was well.

Shubman Gill hits sensational century

Batting first, the star opening batsman Shubman Gill hit a brilliant ton. He smashed 112 runs off 102 balls, with 14 fours and 3 sixes, to take India to a good total of 356 runs.

Shubman Gill spoke to broadcasters ahead of the start of the match and he talked about being the vice-captain of the team and playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

"I am enjoying the [vice-captaincy] responsibility. It's feeling pretty good right now," he said.

"Feels really amazing whenever I come back here. I have memories attached to this venue and the city. So I feel really exciting and amazing whenever I come back here."

Shubman Gill added that they would not take England lightly and give their all in the third dead rubber ODI. He stated:

"Usually we don't really get 2-day gaps in ODIs recently but it is good for the body. We can comeback and give it our all in the next game. We are talking about not losing the momentum. The signs of a great team are irrespective of winning the series or not we take every game as one and like any other game we are looking to give it our all."
