Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali delivered a stunning spell during the match between the Birmingham Bears and the Derbyshire Falcons in the Vitality Blast. The right-arm pacer picked up six wickets, including a hat-trick, to help the Birmingham Bears secure a 58-run win at Edgbaston on Sunday, June 6.

Birmingham Bears got off to a strong start after being asked to bat. Openers Tom Latham and Alex Davies put together a 79-run stand. Latham scored 58 runs from 42 deliveries, while Davies added 49 runs off 29 balls. Birmingham posted a total of 199 for six, which proved too much for the opposition.

Hasan Ali then starred with the ball in restricting the opposition team to 141 runs in 19.1 overs. Chasing 200, Derbyshire collapsed to 29 for 4 within the first four overs, and they failed to recover from that situation. Hasan picked up his first wicket by dismissing David Lloyd (17 off 9 balls) in the fourth over.

The Pakistan pacer returned for a second spell to wrap up the tail and took four wickets late in the innings, including a hat-trick. Ross Whiteley (caught at long-off), Alex Thomson (caught at mid-on), and Ben Aitchison (bowled) were his victims in the hat-trick.

Vitality Blast took to their official social media account X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the clip of Hasan Ali taking a hat-trick, with the caption, "Hasan Ali takes a hat-trick for the Bears! 😱"

Hasan finished with six wickets for 23 runs in his 3.1 overs. Ross Whiteley (50 off 37) and Wayne Madsen (46 off 32) were the only two batters to cross the 20-run mark for Derbyshire.

George Garton Equals the T20 Record for Most Catches by a Non-Wicketkeeper

George Garton was also instrumental in the match, equaling the T20 record for most catches by a non-wicketkeeper with five. He scored 12 runs off the last three balls he faced.

Derbyshire struggled with a weakened squad due to Samit Patel’s calf injury, bringing in Fynn Hudson-Prentice on a short-term loan, but he couldn’t prevent the early batting collapse.

Birmingham Bears’ fielding was sharp throughout. Garton took five catches, including those of Caleb Jewell, Aneurin Donald, and David Lloyd. Meanwhile, Hasan Ali maintained the pressure by dismissing Martin Andersson before his hat-trick heroics.

Alex Davies and Tom Latham Build Strong Foundation for Bears’ Innings

Earlier, Alex Davies and Tom Latham set a foundation for the Bears’ innings. They comfortably navigated the powerplay, adding 79 runs before Davies was controversially caught behind off a wide ball from Pat Brown, a decision that left the captain puzzled.

Latham, who was dropped on 40 at deep square leg, capitalized on the reprieve and reached a half-century. Dan Mousley’s (13) innings ended when the ball subtly brushed behind him to hit the stumps.

Sam Hain was caught deep as the innings progressed, with wickets falling. However, Moeen Ali and George Garton's cameo kept the momentum alive, helping the Bears reach a strong total of 199, including 21 runs from the final over.
