India’s 2024-25 domestic cricket season finally got underway on Thursday, September 5, with India C taking on India D in the opening game of the Duleep Trophy 2024 at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh.
India C captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss, and his bowlers didn’t disappoint him, as India D is reeling at 76/7 even before the lunch break in the first session in Anantapur. Well, the real drama got to be seen in the 4th ball of the 30th over when Hrithik Shokeen brilliantly ran out Saransh Jain to trouble India D’s deep in the tournament opener.

The left-handed Saransh played the shot on the front foot, with the ball moving towards the offside in slow motion. After playing his shot off the India C pacer Himanshu Chauhan, Saransh ran for a single and found himself in the middle of the wicket with the Indian all-rounder Axar Patel returning to his crease.
Well,Shokeen made the most of the opportunity, as he grabbed the ball without making a mistake and threw it at the stumps to hand another blow to India D in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 opener. The stump bells were already crushed by the Shokeen throw before Saransh crossed the lines.

This mix-up handed India C seventh success in the match, but Patel's decision to save his wicket is turning out fruitful for India D, as the Indian all-rounder is yet again shining under pressure.
Axar has already notched up his fifty to take India D over the 100-run mark. Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh is batting on another side with India C dominating the game, thanks to their impressive bowling. Notably, Harshit Rana also failed to leave a mark, dismissing for a 6-ball duck.
India C bowlers shine bright against India D
Earlier in the match, big names like India D captain Shreyas Iyer (9), Devdutt Padikkal (0), and Srikar Bharat (13) badly failed to live up to the expectations, leaving their team in deep trouble against India C in the first game of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024.
For India C, Anshul Kamboj, Vijay Kumar Vyshak, and Himanshu Chauhan have each grabbed two wickets so far, while Manav Suthar dismissed Bharat in the ongoing red-ball game. Notably, Axar Patel is almost certain to play in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home.
Axar Patel set to be retained by Delhi Capitals
He has been enjoying it great as an all-rounder across the format. On the other hand, the Delhi Capitals (DC) will reportedly retain Axar alongside their captain Rishabh Pant for the upcoming IPL 2025. The franchise is also planning to name Patel as their permanent vice-captain.
However, Kuldeep Yadav's future remains uncertain with the DC. The left-arm wrist-spinner, who is currently playing for India A in the ongoing Duleep Trophy, is likely to enter the IPL 2025 mega-auction, but DC are interested in retaining him, subject to the retention amount.
