India A players were shocked by a controversial umpire decision during the second day of the second unofficial Test against Australia A in Melbourne. Australian opener Marcus Harris was not given out despite edging the ball to first slip, and the Decision Review System (DRS) was unavailable in the match.

Australia A was bowled out for 223 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, taking a 62-run lead. Marcus Harris, competing for Australia’s second opener spot, played a crucial knock of 74 runs. The left-handed batter reached his 47th first-class fifty but survived a close appeal from India A when he was on 48.

Watch: India A Players Left Shocked With Controversial Call On Marcus Harris

The incident occurred when Marcus Harris was on 48. India A's off-spinner Tanush Kotian bowled a sharp off-break that drifted in and then sharply turned. The ball was caught by the first slip fielder, but the on-field umpire did not give it out. The lack of a DRS review led to controversy over the decision.

Indian players were frustrated after the umpire failed to decide on a close call. The visiting team believed the ball had nicked Harris' bat, but there was some uncertainty about whether it had come off his bat or his thigh guard. India were confident that Marcus Harris had nicked the ball.

“Edge and he’s out. No he’s not! The Indians cannot believe it. Umpire Mike Graham-Smith is unmoved. To the naked eye, it looked like a genuine edge. Harris stood his ground," the commentator said on air.

Prasidh Krishna Seeks Ball Change in India A vs Australia A Test

During Australia A's middle-order collapse, India’s Prasidh Krishna approached umpire Gerard Abood for a ball change in the 28th over. Abood appeared unfazed by the request and asked the players to continue.

“(Looks like they’re) talking about a bit of potential mud on the ball; making sure it’s okay to get it out of the seam. Krishna’s not happy full stop. I’m not sure if it’s an aesthetics thing,” former Australian player Rob Quiney said on commentary.

The following ball, Marcus Harris defended the next delivery straight back to Prasidh Krishna, who threw the ball wildly back towards Harris in frustration. Commentator Rob Quiney pointed out that Krishna had earlier wanted the umpire to have a second look at it.

“A bit of frustration, and it was interesting in the build-up to that ball when the ball was given to him there … he wanted the umpire to have a second look at it,” Quiney added.

Ishan Kishan Involved in a Heated Argument with On-Field Umpire

The first unofficial Test between India A and Australia A was also hit by controversy when an on-field umpire accused the India A players of tampering with the ball.

The incident occurred when the match officials decided to change the ball on Day 4. The India players were not pleased with it, but umpire Shawn Craig claimed they had scratched the ball. Australia A won the match by seven wickets, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
