The Indian team is in full gear ahead of the white-ball series against Sri Lanka, making use of the extended time to prepare for the leg. The first of the three ODIs, initially scheduled to begin on the 13th of July, will now commence on the 18th due to a few COVID-19 positive cases in the Sri Lankan camp. With that, several Indian players hit the nets, doing batting, bowling, and fielding practice.
In the batting unit, the likes of Hardik Pandya, Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana, and Shikhar Dhawan, amongst others, were seen smacking the ball around. Devdutt Padikkal and Nitish Rana have earned their maiden call-ups to the Indian squad after their consistent domestic performances. Padikkal, in particular, has been impressive in the last couple of years, including in the IPL.

Apart from the duo, Ruturaj Gaikwad is also one other batsman to receive a maiden call-up. In the bowling unit, vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar, uncapped fast bowler Chetan Sakariya, new-ball swing bowler Deepak Chahar were rolling their arms. Amongst the spinners, Varun Chakravarthy, Rahul Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav were also bowling.
Below is the video shared by BCCI, where the Indian players could be seen practising:

Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, in particular, would hope to make this tour count and gain the consistency to remain in line for the T20 World Cup selection. The fans are also keen to see Rahul Dravid, who will coach the team in Ravi Shastri’s absence. Rahul Dravid has been one of the masterminds behind Indian cricket’s recent rise in the fraternity. The 164-Test veteran who serves as the head coach of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore has been responsible for the development of several youngsters.
