There were not only emotional scenes on the ground in Barbados, but the Hindi commentary box and fans watching the historic final back at home were going through the same emotions, and Pathan was literally seen crying on camera after the Men in Blue crowned T20 World Cup 2024 champions.

Actually, the 39-year-old faced immense pain over the last 10 days following the passing of his hairstylist, Faiyaz Ansari, in the West Indies during the tournament. Pathan was absent from broadcasting during this time and returned on the night of the finals on June 29.

After India became the first team to remain unbeaten with the T20 World Cup title, Pathan became extremely emotional, expressing how hard it was to lose Faiyaz, whom he considered his brother. He mentioned that his tears were not only due to the recent pain he had endured but also happy tears.

Irfan Pathan expressed his deep gratitude and emotions on Star Sports following India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win. He acknowledged the crucial contributions of players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav.

Pathan highlighted Suryakumar’s crucial catch to dismiss David Miller, stating that it was so impactful that he would remember it for the rest of his life. He emphasized the threat posed by Miller and how the catch could potentially save the match for India. Pathan also shared a personal note, revealing that the past 10 days had been incredibly tough for him.

Thank You Team India and congratulations to my country: Irfan Pathan

The 2007 T20 World Cup winner clarified that his tears were not solely due to sadness but also a reflection of his happiness and relief while extending his heartfelt appreciations to Team India and congratulating his country.

Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports: “I am thankful to Jasprit Bumrah, I am thankful to Rohit Sharma, I am thankful to Hardik Pandya, and I am thankful to Suryakumar Yadav. I will never forget his catch. Even if I am breathing for the last time, I will remember Suryakumar Yadav's catch. David Miller is such a dangerous batsman that if he had gone for a six in the first ball, maybe the match would have been over for us.

And the Indian team may not know, —you guys know—that the last 10 days were extremely difficult for me. So, these tears of mine are not just tears of sorrow not because I'm sad or things that happened in my life, but they are tears of happiness. So, I love you, Team India. Thank you very much. Congratulations to my country.”
