Watch- Ishan Kishan And Shubman Gill Nearly Injure Rohit Sharma In Wild Celebration
Team India has started a really good dressing room tradition where they award the best fielder of the match with a gold medal. This award is not just about the catches and runouts that a fielder does on the field but it is about the all-round effort and impact that a player creates on the field with his fielding. Rohit Sharma won the best fielder medal for the India Vs South Africa match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
India’s fielding coach, T Dilip chose four contenders for the medal and they were Ravindra Jadeja, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma. The way of selecting the winner was also very unique as the whole team went outside on the ground and Dilip asked to bring the buggy camera. The buggy cam can rotate 360 degrees and Dilip asked the contenders to surround the camera. The rule was simple, the player on which buggy cam stops rotating is the player who wins the medal.
All the four contenders surrounded the cam and the cam eventually stopped at Rohit Sharma. This is the first time Rohit has won the best fielder medal in this tournament. Previously, Ravindra Jadeja, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, Shadul Thakur, and KL Rahul have won this medal. T Dilip talked about how Rohit’s tactical awareness in the field made him the winner of this medal.
Rohit Sharma’s Tactical Awareness On The Field Made Him The Winner
After winning the medal Rohit said, “This is something we started in this tournament and Mr Dilip sir has mentioned many a time that this medal is just not the mere catching and a couple of runouts, but it is more than that.”
