Team India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has taken a jibe at Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan for his habit of excessive appealing. In a recent conversation with former umpire Anil Chaudhary, Kishan said umpires might start overturning clear dismissals if wicketkeepers appeal excessively.
Former India captain MS Dhoni set high standards for wicketkeeping with his decision-making. However, some wicketkeepers tend to appeal excessively, and Mohammad Rizwan is among them. The Pakistan cricketer frequently makes exaggerated appeals, which have not always been well received.
"If I Do Something Like Mohammad Rizwan..." - Ishan Kishan
Ishan also said that umpires have become smarter and might start overturning clear dismissals if wicketkeepers appeal excessively. He advised that appeals should be made at the right moment rather than repeatedly.
"Mujhe lagta hai umpire log smart ho gaye hain. Har baar karenge toh phir un log out ko bhi not out de denge. Isse achha ek baar karo, jab hai tab call karo, aap log ko bhi confidence rahega ki sahi time pe hi call karte hain. Warna agar main Rizwan type kuch karunga, toh phir aap log ek hi baar mein de denge," Kishan said.
"I think the umpires have become smarter. If they keep doing it repeatedly, they might even start giving out decisions as not out. It’s better to make the call just once and at the right time so that even you (umpires) have confidence in your decision. Otherwise, if I do something like Rizwan, then you might give it in one go."

New Umpires Should Be More Confident While Making Decisions - Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan also shared his thoughts on umpiring standards, emphasizing that there is always room for improvement. He added that new umpires should be more confident in their decision-making rather than being influenced by appeals or external pressures.
"To be very honest, there are certain umpires we are happy to see officiating in matches. However, there is always room for improvement. I feel that the new umpires coming in should be more confident while making decisions. They should not overthink the consequences, but if they believe a batter is out, they should make the call without being influenced by appeals or other factors," Kishan said.
Ishan Kishan is Playing for SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025
Ishan Kishan is currently playing for SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Kishan smashed a match-winning century in their tournament opener against Rajasthan Royals on March 23, scoring an unbeaten 106 off just 47 balls. This was his maiden IPL century.
SRH secured Kishan for ₹11.25 crore at the November mega auction after he was released by the Mumbai Indians (MI). His impressive knock came after a challenging period, as he lost his BCCI contract in early 2024 and was left out of India’s T20 World Cup squad following an underwhelming IPL season.
Kishan will next be seen in action when SRH face Lucknow Super Giants on March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
