Veteran England pacer James Anderson gave a fiery send-off to young Indian batter Shubman Gill during the second day of the fifth Test. James Anderson’s reaction came after dismissing Shubman Gill with a brilliant delivery in India’s first innings in Dharamsala.

The home team began the second day’s play at 135/1 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Friday, March 8. Overnight batters Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill played the first session without losing a wicket to the England bowlers.

Rohit Sharma appeared to be in control throughout the match and reached his 12th Test hundred. Shubman Gill also completed his second century of the ongoing five-match series. The Indian team ended the first session with a total of 264 runs for the loss of one wicket.

The visiting team bounced back in the post-lunch session of Day 2. England skipper Ben Stokes provided a breakthrough for the team in the second over after the break. Stokes, bowling his first over of the series, shattered Rohit’s stumps with a magical delivery.

The incident took place during the 63rd over of India’s ongoing first innings. James Anderson breached Shubman Gill’s defense with a brilliant delivery in the second session on the second day. The ball snuck through Gill’s bat-pad gap, sending the off-stump flying.

It marked Anderson’s 699th wicket, strengthening England’s position. The visiting team dismissed both set batters in the post-lunch session. With two wickets falling in quick succession, the Rohit Sharma-led side now faces mounting pressure in the ongoing match.

England Bowled Out For 218 Runs In First Innings

Earlier on the opening day, the team led by Ben Stokes was bowled out for just 218 runs. The visitors had a promising start, reaching 175/3 at one stage. However, they suffered a collapse, losing the last seven wickets in quick succession after the lunch break on Day 1.

England opening batter Zak Crawley led the scoring with 79 runs off 108 deliveries, featuring a six and 11 boundaries. Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, and Ben Foakes made promising starts but failed to convert them into a big score in England’s first innings.

Kuldeep Yadav starred for his team with an impressive five-wicket haul, showcasing his bowling prowess. Ravichandran Ashwin, in his 100th Test appearance, also contributed significantly with a four-wicket haul. Ravindra Jadeja claimed the crucial wicket of Joe Root.

The Rohit Sharma-led side secured the five-match series with a dominant 3-1 lead despite faltering in the opening Test in Hyderabad. The home team registered victories in subsequent matches in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Ranchi, sealing their series triumph.
