Team India pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah provided a sensational start to his team on Day 2 of the third Test against England at the Lord's Cricket Ground on Friday, July 11. Bumrah made a mess of centurion Joe Root's stumps, and it was probably the most crucial wicket for the visiting team.
England began the second day at 251/4 with Joe Root (99) and Ben Stokes (39) at the crease. Root reached his 37th Test century on the first ball of the day with a boundary. However, the home team lost three quick wickets inside the first hour of the morning session, and all were taken by Jasprit Bumrah.

Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Joe Root for 104 early on Day 2 with a brilliant delivery. The incident took place on the first ball of the 88th over in England’s first innings. He pitched the ball fuller just outside off, and it nipped back in sharply. It took the inside edge and crashed into the middle stump.
This marked the 11th time Bumrah has dismissed Root in Test cricket. Root, who scored 104 runs off 199 balls with the help of 10 boundaries, received applause from the Lord’s crowd while walking towards the pavilion. The loud cheers came from Indian supporters after the wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah Can Make Things Happen - Phil Tufnell
Speaking on BBC Test Match Special, Phil Tufnell praised Jasprit Bumrah for his ability to produce game-changing moments. He called Bumrah’s delivery that dismissed Joe Root terrific and quick. Tufnell also described Root’s innings as a fine effort that put England in a good position.
"He's some bowler. He can make things happen, Jasprit Bumrah. But what a knock by Joe Root. That's a terrific delivery. Quick and fast. That knock has put England in a good position, though. If you get 350 you're in the game big time," Tufnell said, as quoted by BBC Test Match Special.
Bumrah has dismissed Root 11 times in Test cricket, the joint-highest by any bowler alongside Pat Cummins. Root has scored 311 runs off 612 deliveries at an average of 28.27 against Bumrah.
Joe Root Smashes a Century but England Lose Early Wickets on Day 2
Joe Root climbed into the top five of all-time Test century-makers with his 37th hundred. He surpassed Rahul Dravid and Steve Smith, who each have 36. It was also Root’s third consecutive century at Lord’s, placing him alongside Jack Hobbs and Michael Vaughan in that elite club.
While Root’s milestone dominated the headlines early on Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah turned the momentum in India’s favor with a fiery spell. He dismissed England captain Ben Stokes, then struck twice in two balls to remove Root and Chris Woakes, dragging India back into the contest.
At the time of writing, England were 271/7, with Brydon Carse and Jamie Smith at the crease. Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for India with four wickets. Nitish Kumar Reddy removed openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in the same over on Day 1.
