Indian star pacer Jasprit Bumrah put the West Indies on the back foot once again, sending Justin Greaves and Johann Layne back to the pavilion in spectacular fashion on the opening day of the ongoing two-match Test series opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Indian fast bowler delivered a perfectly targeted yorker, straight at the base of the off-stump, leaving Justin Greaves helpless. However, Greaves tried hard to defend, but the ball sneaked under his bat and crashed into the off-stumps, ending his innings at 32 off 48 balls.

After removing Greaves in the 39th over, Jasprit Bumrah has almost wrapped up the West Indies innings in style, clean bowling young debutant Johann Layne for just 1 run in the 41st over. The Indian pacer delivered another pinpoint yorker, perfectly aimed at the stumps, and Layne had no answer.

Well, Kuldeep Yadav wrapped up the West Indies inning by taking the wicket of Jomel Warrican. On the first ball he faced off against Kuldeep, and Warrican attempted a risky reverse sweep, misjudging the flight and missing the ball entirely.
The edge brushed his glove and flew straight to the Indian wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who took a brilliant low catch. Warrican’s innings ended at 8 off 16 balls, as the West Indies could manage only 162 runs against India.
West Indies’ woes continue in India with early collapse
They suffered a dramatic collapse in Ahmedabad, getting bowled out in just 44.1 overs—the second quickest first-innings dismissal by a visiting team in India. Earlier, Bangladesh was bowled out in 30.3 overs at Eden Gardens in the 2019 day-night Test.
The West Indies have struggled badly in India. In their last ten innings in India, they have managed to survive the opening new ball only once. Almost every time, India’s fast bowlers have taken early wickets, leaving the visitors under pressure from the very start.

Jasprit Bumrah sets record for fastest 50 Test wickets in India
Well, Mohammed Siraj was the standout bowler with 4/40 in 14 overs, while Jasprit Bumrah scalped three wickets. Bumrah completed 50 Test wickets in India during the first innings. He reached the milestone in just 1,747 balls, making him the fastest bowler to 50 wickets in Indian conditions.
On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav also made an impact with two wickets against the West Indies, who have not won a Test match against India since May 2002.
Earlier, the Indian captain Shubman Gill said that the team is determined to win all four Test matches remaining this year. Gill also noted that India’s preparation has been good and everyone is in great touch, saying, “It is about getting into the red-ball mindset.”
