The International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman, Jay Shah, was absolutely delighted after the New Zealand National Cricket Team pacer Kyle Jamieson dropped the star India National Cricket Team batter Shreyas Iyer on Sunday, March 9.

Shreyas Iyer plays a brilliant knock

The star middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer continued his good form in ODI cricket and played a fantastic innings in the summit clash of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

He came out to bat after the back-to-back dismissals of Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill. India came under some pressure when Iyer came to the middle, and the right-handed looked at his absolute best.

Shreyas Iyer stabilised the Indian innings with his brilliant batting performance as he smashed 48 runs off 62 balls, with 2 fours and 2 sixes, before being dismissed in the 39th over.

Notably, Shreyas Iyer got a lifeline on the fourth ball of the 37th over when Kyle Jamieson dropped an easy catch. Iyer walked down the track to smash a Glenn Phillips delivery for a six, but he failed to make a good connection.

The ball went flat towards Kyle Jamieson, who covered the ground and slid across from long-on and grabbed the ball, but it somehow popped out of his grasp. Looking at this, the ICC chairman Jay Shah went wild and he looked absolutely delighted with Iyer getting a lifeline.

India's Performance In The Last ICC Champions Trophy Final

In their previous ICC Champions Trophy final in the year 2017, Team India faced a crushing 180-run defeat at the hands of Team Pakistan at The Oval on June 18.

Batting first, Pakistan posted a huge total of 338/4 on the board in their 50 overs, thanks to Fakhar Zaman’s stunning century(114 off 106 balls) and crucial contributions from Azhar Ali (59), Babar Azam (46), and Mohammad Hafeez (57*).

The Indian bowling unit struggled in the match, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/44) being the most economical. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja went wicketless, while Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav, and Bhuvneshwar bagged one wicket each.

Chasing the total, India faced a horrible start as Mohammad Amir wreaked havoc with the ball, dismissing Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan early on in the innings.

With India struggling at 54/5, Hardik Pandya played a lone warrior’s knock, smashing 76 off 43 balls, including six sixes. However, a miscommunication with Ravindra Jadeja resulted in his run-out and India were eventually bundled out for just 158 in 30.3 overs to lose the match.

For Pakistan, Hasan Ali (3/19) and Mohammad Amir (3/16) were the top performers with the ball while Shadab Khan and Junaid Khan were also among the wickets.
