Kavem Hodge was on his haunches while the England players were in disbelief as Ollie Pope pulled off one of the most remarkable reflex catches ever seen on a cricket field. The England star pulled off the catch on day one of the ongoing first Test against West Indies at Lord's.
On the third ball of the 36th over, Chris Woakes bowled one that was short and wide outside the off stump. Hodge went for a cut shot and made a good connection as well. 9 out of 10 times, the ball would have gone for a boundary. However, it was not Hodge's day as Ollie Pope came up with a remarkable effort to send him back.
The England batsman was fielding at short cover, just a few yards away from the pitch. He had less than a second to react but the time was more than enough for him to react and complete the catch. He dived to his left side and caught the ball with both hands to leave the batsman as well as his teammates in disbelief.

Talking about the game, the hosts have put themselves in the driver's seat by bowling out West Indies for a paltry total of 121 runs. Asked to bat first, the visitors started well as they did not lose any wickets inside the powerplay. However, once debutant Gus Atkinson dismissed captain Kraigg Brathwaite in the 11th over, the floodgates opened.
West Indies kept losing wickets at regular intervals after their captain's departure. At one stage, they were reeling at 88 for 7 and it looked like they would not even touch the 100-run mark. However, the likes of Alzarri Joseph (17) and Gudakesh Motie (14*) helped them post a 100-plus total.
For England, Atkinson starred with the ball. Playing his first Test, Atkinson picked up an impressive 7 wickets for just 45 runs to put his team on the front foot in the game. James Anderson, playing his farewell Test, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes picked up 1 wicket each.
For West Indies, debutant Mikyle Louis was the top-scorer, scoring 27 runs. In reply, England were on 22 for no loss at the time of writing this report.
