India National Cricket Team batter KL Rahul came up with a gritty effort with the bat in the ongoing first innings of the first Test against the Australia National Cricket Team. The Optus Stadium in Perth is hosting the opening game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Rahul, who opened the innings for the India National Cricket Team in the ongoing game, looked the only settled batter in the first session of the play. The batter showed great discipline and seemed to be in his zone as he watched the ball brilliantly and showed precise footwork.

Rahul also played some glorious shots in his innings and with the way he was batting, it seemed that he would bat long and take his team to a competitive total. He held one end and looked unfazed by the wickets falling at the other end.

Third umpire Richard Illingworth makes a blunder as he makes the wrong decision to term KL Rahul out

But his stay at the crease was cut short by the controversial decision given by the third umpire Richard Illingworth. On the 2nd ball of the 23rd over, Mitchell Starc bowled a good length across off stump, to which the batter got forward to defend but it went on with the angle and through to the keeper.

The on-field umpire didn't turn it out, but the Australia National Cricket Team skipper Pat Cummins opted for DRS. There were two noises as the ball went through to the keeper but the spike emerged as his bat hit the pad. There seemed to be a gap between bat and ball, but the third umpire went based on the spike despite the lack of the front-on angle in combination with Snicko.

The front-on replay clearly showed that the event of the bat hitting pad came well after the ball went past the outside edge. So the spike on Snicko was probably off the edge. But the third umpire overturned, and KL Rahul had to take the long walk back to the pavilion.

However, KL Rahul was extremely disappointed with the way he was given out. He shared some words with umpires and gestured there was a big gap. He shook his head in dejection as he walked back and fumed at the third umpire near the boundary ropes.

KL Rahul ends with an innings of 26 runs off 74 balls

KL Rahul ended with an innings of 26 runs off 74 balls. He also slammed three boundaries in his innings and so far has been the top run-getter for the India National Cricket Team in the ongoing innings. With his wicket, the team came under massive pressure and was left tottering at 47/4.

The onus now once again lies on Rishabh Pant to bail the team out of trouble. Rishabh Pant has looked solid with the bat so far, and along with Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Washington Sundar, would want to take his team to the competitive total.
