Team Indian cricketer KL Rahul showed some excellent presence of mind on the field to take a sharp catch on Day 2 of the fifth Test match against Australia in Sydney. KL Rahul's catch resulted in the dismissal of Australia’s lower-order batter Mitchell Starc at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, January 4.

The Australian team started the second day's play at 9-1. However, they lost regular wickets against the Indian bowling attack. Starc came to the crease when the home team lost seven wickets for 162 runs. However, the left-handed batter failed to contribute to the team with the bat at a crucial stage.

The dismissal occurred in the 47th over in Australia's first innings. Nitish Kumar Reddy bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that Mitchell Starc attempted to defend. However, the ball took the outside edge of Starc’s bat and went towards KL Rahul, who dived forward to take the catch at second slip.

The ball appeared to die in the slip, but Rahul managed to secure it cleanly. The on-field umpire referred the decision to the third umpire, who confirmed the catch was legitimate. With the dismissal, the Australia team was reduced to eight wickets down, and Starc walked off with a score of 1 (4).

Broadcaster Star Sports took to social media account X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the clip of KL Rahul's catch with the caption, 'EDGED & GONE! ☝ #NitishKumarReddy adds two to the wickets column as #PatCummins & #MitchellStarc depart in quick succession! 🔥'

Australia Bowled Out for 181 Runs in First Innings Despite Jasprit Bumrah's Absence

The focus was on Jasprit Bumrah and Sam Konstas following their heated exchange on Day 1. Bumrah made an early impact, taking his first breakthrough of the morning in just eight balls. The tourists reviewed a caught-behind decision after Marnus Labuschagne (2) feathered the ball through to the keeper.

Konstas played a ramp shot off Bumrah but was dismissed the very next over by Mohammad Siraj. He edged a swinging delivery to Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully. Siraj struck again by dismissing Travis Head, with KL Rahul accepting a simple catch at second slip. Steve Smith fell five runs short of 10,000 career runs.

Beau Webster and Alex Carey tried to stabilize the innings before Prasidh dismissed the Australia wicketkeeper batter. India managed to pick up the last five wickets despite skipper Jasprit Bumrah being off the field. Australia was bowled out for 181 runs in the first innings, conceding a narrow four-run lead.

For India, Siraj and Krishna picked up three wickets each, while Bumrah secured two. Webster was the best batter for Australia on the second day, scoring 57 runs off 115 balls with the help of five boundaries.
