KL Rahul Takes Blinder

KL Rahul, on Saturday (September 21), took a fine diving catch to send back Mushfiqur Rahim in the second innings of the ongoing first India vs Bangladesh Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

While India were firmly in the driver's seat when Rahim came out to bat, they needed to dismiss him early to avoid any chance of an unlikely Bangladesh comeback. One of the most experienced batters in the world, Rahim recently played a brilliant 191-run knock in the Rawalpindi Test that helped Bangladesh register their first-ever Test win over Pakistan.

However, the former Bangladesh skipper could not replicate his performance against India thanks to a fine effort from KL Rahul. He got out in the 34th over that was bowled by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

On the fourth ball of the over, Rahim danced down the track in order to attack the India spin spearhead. He went for a drive but failed to keep his shot on the ground as he hit the ball towards mid-on.

The ball was well short of KL Rahul and it looked like Rahim would be safe. However, KL Rahul timed his dive to perfection and took a superb catch. Rahim departed after scoring 13 runs from 11 balls with the help of a century and a four.

At the end of the third day, Bangladesh were on 158/4 while chasing an improbable target of 515 runs. The umpires had to call off the day a bit early because of bad light. With two days still remaining in the game, Team India would be looking to register a comfortable win and take an unassailable lead in the two-match series.

For Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto was unbeaten on 51 at the stumps, and giving him company was Shakib Al Hasan. The tourists will be hoping that their captain and former captain come up with a good show on day four.

Earlier on day three, India declared their second innings on 287/4. India posted a big total thanks to centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. Gill remained unbeaten on 119 while Pant scored 109 runs. In the first innings, India scored 376 while Bangladesh were all out for 149.
