Bangladesh left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam and Sri Lanka’s vice-captain Kusal Mendis were involved in a war of words on Friday in the third ODI in Dhaka. Friday’s dead rubber between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka went the latter’s way as they won by 97 runs. While Sri Lankan captain Kusal Perera’s century was one of the highlights, the incident between Shoriful Islam and Kusal Mendis also grabbed the spotlight.

The incident occurred in the final ball of the 17th over when Shoriful Islam delivered an off-cutter, which Kusal Mendis could not connect and got beaten. After that, the left-arm paceman walked up to Mendis and hurled some swear words. But Mendis did not hold back and hit back as well. But the situation did not escalate much and the game resumed.

Below is the clip of the altercation between Kusal Mendis and Shoriful Islam:

Both Kusal Mendis and Shoriful Islam endured mediocre outings on Friday as they could not contribute heavily towards their side’s cause. Though Mendis stuck with Kusal Perera for their 69-run stand, he ended up with 22 off 36 only. On the other hand, Islam delivered nine overs for 56 runs and dismissed Perera, along with running out Niroshan Dickwella in the 43rd over.

A century and a half-century from Kusal Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva, respectively, lifted Sri Lanka to 286 after batting first. Though Mosaddek Hossain and Mahmudullah Riyad made fifties, Bangladesh lost too many wickets at the start and the pressure on both the batsmen was enormous. Dushmantha Chameera delivered a match-winning spell of 9-1-16-5 as the tourists registered a 97-run win to finish the series.
