Sunil Narine falls in 1st over vs PBKS

Narine, who was the Most Valuable Player in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has not been able to set the stage on fire in IPL 2025.

With the ball, Sunil Narine has been economical and has picked up wickets at regular intervals for Kolkata Knight Riders. However, with the bat, he is yet to play a big knock. Even though Sunil Narine has got off to good starts, he has been unable to convert them into big scores.

In the match against Punjab Kings, while chasing 112, Sunil Narine got out after scoring 5 runs off 4 balls. On the last ball of the first over, left-arm pacer Marco Jansen, who opened the bowling instead of Arshdeep Singh, bowled a length delivery on off-stump.

Sunil Narine cleared his front leg and went for a wild swipe but missed the pull, and the ball hit the stumps to send the KKR opener back to the pavilion.

PBKS were told to improve powerplay bowling

In an interaction on ESPNCricinfo ahead of the PBKS vs KKR clash, the former Punjab Kings coach Wasim Jaffer said that the bowling in the powerplay has been a big concern for the Shreyas Iyer-led side. He stated:

"I would say, Arshdeep, for not picking up wickets early on. You know, they look at him to pick wickets in the powerplay and so does Marco Jansen. He hasn't been that effective. I don't know how serious is Lockie's injury and where do they go. You know, whether they go to another overseas bowler or they go on and pick Vijaykumar, or show trust in him. So, I feel the powerplay bowling, Arshdeep especially, needs to come to the party."

While talking about the most expensive spinner in IPL auction history, Yuzvendra Chahal, Wasim Jaffer said that he needs to show more aggression with the ball. He elaborated:

"I just feel he needs to change his mindset a little bit more. He needs to be a little bit more aggressive. He's going to a very defensive approach, looking to slide the ball rather than imparting spin, which we have seen when he got Travis Head out. He doesn't bowl those deliveries quite a lot.

"As soon as he gets hit, he tries to slide it down outside of the stump and bowls those sliders rather than looking to spin the ball. We've seen Vipraj Nigam do that. We've seen other leg-spinners do that. I think he just needs to be a little bit more aggressive in his approach."
