Marcus Stoinis, on Sunday (June 1), proved his worth once again by giving Punjab Kings a huge breakthrough in the ongoing IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The start of the match was delayed by two hours due to rain and a wet outfield. Before that, Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer had won the toss and opted to bowl first in the virtual semifinal.

Lot of bowling changes rung in by Shreyas Iyer

After the game finally began, Iyer decided to introduce Marcus Stoinis into the attack in the very third over of the match, and move paid off immediately. The Australia allrounder gave Punjab Kings a huge breakthrough by dismissing in-form Rohit Sharma on the second ball of his over.

Rohit had managed to score only 4 runs from 5 balls at the end of the second over and decided to go after Marcus Stoinis in the third over. He welcomed the Punjab Kings allrounder into the attack by hitting his first ball for a four.

However, Marcus Stoinis had the last laugh as he dismissed Rohit on the very next delivery. It was a length ball from Stoinis and Rohit decided to go all out against it. However, the former Mumbai Indians captain ended up hitting the ball straight to Vijaykumar Vyshak at deep-backward square leg.

And as Vyshak completed the catch, Stoinis decided to celebrate the wicket by giving Rohit an aggressive send-off. He looked pumped up as he thumped his chest and let out a roar.

Losing Rohit early would be a big blow for Mumbai. The veteran allrounder had delivered a match-winning performance in the last game against Gujarat Titans. He had scored 81 runs and was adjudged the Player of the Match as well.

Coming to the game, Mumbai Indians were on 43/1 after 4 overs at the time of writing this report. Jonny Bairstow and Tilak Varma were batting in the middle for the five-time champions.
