While the Australian cricket team is proving to be tough to beat in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA, another Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne has pulled out one of the greatest catches in the history of cricket.

Labuschagne took the catch during the second innings of the Vitality T20 Blast match between Glamorgan and Gloucestershire in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Thursday. While chasing a modest target of 141 runs, Gloucestershire were struggling at 45-4 in 9 overs. Legspinner Mason Crane came in to bowl the tenth over of the innings.

Crane bowled a loopy legbreak on the stumps which the left-hander Ben Charlesworth looked to smash down the ground. But the mishit didn't go too far and Marnus Labuschagne, charging in from long-on, took a diving one-handed catch to remove the batter.

Labuschagne couldn't believe what he had done and ran to celebrate with his Glamorgan teammates. His teammates mobbed him as they sensed that they had witnessed something special. But Labuschagne's effort went in vain as his team lost the match by 2 wickets in the end.

Gloucestershire seal a thriller

Talking about the match, Gloucestershire won the thrilling encounter as Josh Shaw hit the match-winning six in the last ball of the match. Despite being 45-5 at one stage, captain Jack Taylor hung on with the lower-order batters to take the team home.

Miles Hammond, Ben Charlesworth, and Graeme van Buuren were the only batters other than Jack Taylor to reach the double-digit figures for Gloucestershire. It was almost a lone battle from the skipper as he showed his mettle when his team needed him the most. Taylor smashed 2 fours and 5 sixes during his knock

Taylor scored 70 off 48 balls and was run out in the last over of the match. With five needed off the last ball, Josh right-arm pacer Josh Shaw hit a stunning six to finish off the game. Shaw scored a crucial 8* off 2 balls in the end. For Glamorgan, Tim van der Gugten bowled a magnificent spell of 2-8 in four overs.

Earlier, Glamorgan scored 140-6 on a tricky surface. Sam Northeast scored an unbeaten 46 off 42 balls while Marnus Labuschagne scored a quickfire 18 off 15 balls but was dismissed by left-arm seamer Matt Taylor. Taylor picked up three wickets for 21 runs in four overs while Josh Shaw, Marchant de Lange, and Beau Webster picked up a wicket each.

With this win, Gloucestershire moved to the fifth position in the points table of South Group with three wins and three defeats. Meanwhile, Glamorgan remained in the seventh spot with two wins and four defeats so far.

Glamorgan will play its next match against Surrey on at The Oval, London while Gloucestershire will be up against Somerset at Bristol. Both games will be played on June 21.
