Watch- Massive goof up in Women's Cricket as umpire Claire Polosak caught embarrassed after wrong signal in Australia vs South Africa ODI
The South African Women’s team is currently facing the Australian women’s team in a three-match ODI series and during the second ODI, a hilarious incident took place during the 24th over of the South African innings.
Umpire Claire Polosak gave not-out to an LBW appeal by the Australians to dismiss Sune Luus and the Aussies went for the DRS. However, the decision was withstood as the impact of the ball was outside off and the third umpire asked the on-field umpire to stay with her decision.
The on-field umpire Claire Polosak got brain faded and mistakenly gave out and suddenly realised that she was asked to stay with her decision. She then signalled not out but the players on-field had a great laugh at her expense.
South Africa Women lost the first ODI against Australia Women by a huge margin of eight wickets as Australia easily chased the meagre target of 106 runs in just 19 overs. The second ODI is being played at the North Sydney Oval in Sydney and it has been reduced to a 46-over contest.
The incident of Claire Polosak giving the right call but the wrong signal came during the 24th over when South Africa was 109 for 3. Sune Luus was batting on 14 (27) and Ashleigh Gardner was bowling with already a wicket to her name.
Sune Luus tried to sweep the ball which was missed by the bat and struck on her pads after which the Aussies appealed for an LBW. On-field umpire Claire Polosak denied the dismissal and Alyssa Healy asked for a DRS.
The DRS was initiated and the third-umpire saw the replay. The ball-tracker showed that the ball was pitching outside off and the impact was also outside and the third umpire asked the standing umpire to stay with her decision. Claire Polosak heard the instructions and mistakenly raised her finger up signalling out which confused everyone on the field but she suddenly realised that she made a mistake and then signalled not out.

South African women are touring Australia for a multi-format tour. The Proteas have already lost the T20I series by 1-2 and they are behind in the ODI series by 0-1. They are playing the second ODI in Sydney and will play one more ODI in the series.
The two teams will then play a one-off Test in Perth to finish off the tour. Women’s Test has not been given much importance as of now as most of the nations including New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and West Indies are not ready to prioritise the longest format in Women’s cricket.
For the past two decades only South Africa, England, Australia and India have participated in the Women’s Test and it has been mostly in the form of one-off Test encounters. Recently, former Australian skipper Meg Lanning talked about the Women’s Test saying that it is better to have it properly or completely shut it down as it affects the preparations of the players.
