New Zealand suffer Matt Henry blow ahead of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final
Henry has been leading the New Zealand bowling attack quite well in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the absence of several key bowlers.
Matt Henry started off his campaign with two wickets in the tournament opener against Pakistan and followed it up with one wicket in the game against Bangladesh.
His best performance came in the high-voltage match against India, as he finished with one of his best bowling figures of all time - 5/42.
In the ongoing match against South Africa, Matt Henry once again started off well as he got his team the opening breakthrough by picking the wicket of Ryan Rickelton.
Meanwhile, an unfortunate incident happened in the 29th over of the innings as while taking the catch of Heinrich Klaasen, Matt Henry suffered an injury on his shoulder.
On the 4th ball of the over, Mitchell Santner bowled a length delivery to Klaasen, who went for his favorite pull shot but didn't make a good connection.
The ball went off the bottom of the bat towards the long-on, where Henry came in running, slid forward, and completed the catch despite taking a heavy blow on his right shoulder.
Henry looked in quite discomfort after taking the catch and he was in pain. Soon, the physio came to attend him and the pacer walked off the field injured.

How did New Zealand perform in their previous ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match?
New Zealand's campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group stage ended on a poor note as they suffered a 44-run defeat against India in Dubai. While chasing a target of 250, the Kiwis struggled and were bowled out for 205 in 45.3 overs.
India batted first in the match and were restricted to 249/9 in their 50 overs by the Black Caps. New Zealand’s bowling was spearheaded by Matt Henry, who delivered a stellar performance with figures of 5/42.
Henry dismantled India’s batting order, dismissing Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami. Kyle Jamieson and Will O’Rourke also chipped in with a wicket each, while Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra kept the run flow in check.
Despite India being reduced to 30/3 at one stage, Shreyas Iyer (79) and Axar Patel (42) stitched together a crucial 98-run partnership, steering their team to a competitive total.
Chasing the target, New Zealand got off to a shaky start as Rachin Ravindra fell early to Hardik Pandya. Will Young (22) and Kane Williamson (81) tried to stabilize the innings, but India’s spinners took control.
Varun Chakravarthy was the wrecker-in-chief as he finished with the figures of 5/42 while Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya provided him with great support.
Despite Williamson's valiant effort, New Zealand kept losing wickets at regular intervals and crumbled under pressure, getting all out for 205 runs.
