Team India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was seen putting in extra effort to improve his batting during practice ahead of the second Test of the five-match series against England. However, Siraj seemed confused and angry after spotting his broken bat, and the clip grabbed the attention of fans.
India will take on England in the second Test from Wednesday, July 2, at the historic Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. The visitors will aim to bounce back and level the series after suffering a heavy defeat in the opening game. The lack of runs from the lower order with the bat is a major concern.
Mohammed Siraj Practices Batting Skills Ahead of 2nd Test Against England
India’s lower-order batters, including pacer Mohammed Siraj, faced heavy criticism for their poor batting performance in the first Test against England at Leeds. The tail-enders failed to support the top-order efforts, with no batter from No. 8 onward managing to reach double digits in two innings.
Siraj scored an unbeaten 3 in the first innings but was dismissed for a golden duck in the second by Josh Tongue. The 31-year-old has often been scrutinized for his reckless approach and lack of application with the bat.
England’s lower-order contributions helped them counter India’s lead. In response to the criticism and the growing importance of tail-end resistance, Indian bowlers have started dedicating more time to batting practice in the nets.

Siraj has batted at No. 11 throughout his Test career. However, he was pushed up the order in the playing XI. Siraj managed to score in double digits twice in his first five Test innings. Since then, he has crossed the 10-run mark just once in his next 46 innings.
Don’t Bowl with Your Heart, Bowl with Your Mind - Mohammad Kaif on Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj has come under scrutiny not only for his batting but also for his bowling performance in the first Test of the ongoing series. Siraj failed to provide support to Jasprit Bumrah, particularly in the first innings, where his inconsistent line and length allowed England to capitalize.
The fast bowler bowled with more control in the second innings and delivered a tighter opening spell, but struggled to take wickets. Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif advised Siraj to shift his focus from raw effort to smarter execution.
“People say Mohammed Siraj tried very hard, bowls with his heart. Sir, don’t bowl with your heart, bowl with your mind and with line and length where we can get wickets," Kaif said on his YouTube channel (via Hindustan Times).
